06 May Man faces attempted murder, firearms offenses in Baltimore
On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Weapons Crimes on Monday, May 6, 2013.
Firearms offenses can prove challenging for the average Baltimore resident who hopes to simply go about their normal, everyday lives. Being charged with firearms offenses stemming from an alleged altercation with authorities might prove even more difficult. One 21-year-old man who was involved in a purported shootout with Baltimore police officials is now facing both an attempted murder charge and firearms offenses.
A second suspect in the incident was fatally wounded during the shootout with police. That 23-year-old man suffered deadly injuries after authorities fired into a bronze sedan. Reports indicate that officers patrolling the area on foot came across the sedan and noticed that shots were being fired out of the vehicle. At that point, police officials returned fire against the car, hitting three men inside the vehicle.
One suspect died and a second now faces criminal charges. There was not any immediate word on how the third man may have related to this investigation. However, according to reports, officers with the Baltimore Police Department have been involved in at least eight separate shootings this year. Seven people were wounded in these police-involved shootings, with two others being fatally wounded.
The 21-year-old man facing attempted murder and firearms offenses in this case is guaranteed the presumption of innocence for the duration of any criminal proceedings against him. Just because officials accuse him of a crime doesn’t mean he has actually committed it. All accused individuals have the right to choose whether to fight the charges in a vigorous defense or attempt to reach a plea deal with prosecutors. It’s not yet clear what will prove to be the case in this particular situation.
