28 Aug 6 Maryland residents accused of marijuana, LSD charges

Recently, what started as a relatively straightforward traffic stop in a Maryland community ended with police accusing six individuals of drug charges. Specifically, the six vehicle occupants were accused of charges ranging from possession of marijuana and LSD to possession with the intention of distributing both substances. Other charges included a weapons violation, not wearing a seatbelt, lying to a police official and not being able to show a valid driver’s license to a police officer.
The traffic stop took place in Ocean City and reportedly started when an officer noticed at least one occupant of the vehicle not wearing a seatbelt. The officer who initiated the traffic stop claimed that all of the vehicle’s occupants demonstrated nervousness at that point. Police then proceeded to search the vehicle and claimed that they uncovered a significant amount of LSD, about a quarter-pound of marijuana and $2,000 in cash.
Maryland police took possession of those items, in addition to a butterfly-style knife they found and the actual vehicle involved in the incident. While all six people had to go before a District Court Commissioner, four of them were allowed to leave. Two others, however, ended up being booked into the Worcester County jail pending a bond value of $2,500.
Facing marijuana and LSD possession charges in the state of Maryland can be serious enough. Being charged with more serious distribution allegations can add another layer to the process. A Maryland resident who faces distribution charges may well wish to research all of their options under the law. This can help in making the decision whether to vigorously defend one’s innocence against the claims or negotiate some type of plea agreement with officials in the hope of a more positive outcome.
