Maryland police say a 17-year-old will be treated as an adult after he was allegedly involved in a fight that caused serious injuries to another man. The accused man is facing an assault with a deadly weapon charge in addition to other offenses after the injured man had to be taken to a trauma center for medical care. The two men were reportedly engaged in a confrontation that became violent.
The man who has been arrested is reportedly being charged with attempted murder as a result of the nature of the other man’s wounds. Police have not released many details, but it has been speculated that the weapon in question was a broken beverage container. The victim received what has been described as serious wounds to one of his arms.
Police have not stated what may have led to the scuffle, only that it occurred in the early hours of a recent Saturday. The man who is being charged reportedly gave his age as 21 when he was first arrested. Later, he stated that he is 17. He is a citizen of Honduras, but he has been in Maryland for some time. It was reported that he too, was taken to a hospital initially, but was later transferred to a local holding facility.
Maryland authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. After all of the facts have been analyzed, the accused man could possibly have different or lesser charges filed against him. In the meantime, the assault with a deadly weapon charge, as well as the attempted murder charge are both serious. Accordingly, he may be dealt severe consequences as a result of this fight in a conviction is ultimately secured in criminal court. However, there is a substantial difference between an accusation and a conviction after trial, and this individual retains important legal rights as he confronts the charges leveled against him ad seeks an optimal result.
