21 Nov 15 Arrests made for drug offenses with more arrests planned
On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Drug Charges on Thursday, November 21, 2013.
Maryland police announced that they have arrested 15 people after a far-reaching investigation. The various charges were all associated with drug offenses and police said that there were additional arrests to be expected after more raids are performed. This investigation is ongoing and active and could necessitate the preparation of criminal defenses for various individuals.
After an investigation lasting four months, a ring of purported drug dealers was dismantled. This investigation included an undercover detective infiltrating the dealers, living among them and reportedly buying narcotics from them. Eight separate localities were raided by police during the past 14 days, with more planned. Police have over 30 subpoenas to obtain mobile phone records to be executed in addition to five more warrants for search and seizure.
According to Maryland police, some of the ringleaders have police records for narcotics related offences locally and in other states. During the raids, police seized laptops, flat screen television sets, DJ equipment, mobile phones, five vehicles and in excess of $1,000 in cash. It is believed that drug money was used to purchase these goods. A variety of narcotics, approximately $10,000 in street value, were also seized. Included were Xanax, marijuana, oxycodone, heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine and Vicodin.
Seven of the suspects who were arrested will be faced with grand jury indictments and even possible life sentences. The drug offenses which they were charged with range from the distributing of controlled substances in school areas and possession of heroin. Considering the serious consequences that could come with convictions on these charges, the accused individuals might be well-served to fully research their rights under the law. This could help them decide whether to present a strong defense against the accusations they face or negotiate a plea deal with authorities.
