24 Jul Attempted murder, firearms offenses brought against Baltimore man
On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Weapons Crimes on Thursday, July 24, 2014.
When a crime takes place in a public area, investigators often seek the help from people near the crime who could have possibly witnessed the event. However, eyewitness accounts are not as definitive as hard evidence, such as DNA, because the human mind can often misconstrue details of memory. A Baltimore man was recently arrested for firearms offenses as well as attempted murder after witnesses led police officers to suspect him of shooting another person.
The 40-year-old man and the 33-year-old victim had allegedly gotten into an argument in a Baltimore neighborhood. When the fight escalated, the man supposedly left the scene, but he later returned to purportedly confront the victim again. This time, however, the man allegedly brandished a handgun and fired twice at the victim.
The man supposedly shot the victim in the right leg and the groin, but the victim is said to be in stable condition. Police officers took the man into custody while they investigated the scene. After communicating with persons who claimed to have witnessed the event, the officers charged the man with attempted murder. He was additionally charged with handgun violations and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Even though formal charges have been brought against the Baltimore man, it is likely that the prosecution will need more than just alleged eyewitness accounts in order to obtain a conviction. If sufficient evidence proving the man’s attempted murder and firearms offenses is not presented, then the charges will likely be reduced or potentially dropped. Meanwhile, the man should take all measures necessary to protect his legal rights as his criminal process moves forward.
