11 Nov Maryland teens taken into custody on drug charges
On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Drug Charges on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.
An 18-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman were taken into custody on Nov. 4 in Woodstock. They were taken into custody after police say they sold 10 grams of what they believed to be heroin to a police informant. Authorities would only say that the sale took place in a town parking lot in Woodstock.
The three were taken into custody without incident, and police say that they had all been in the same vehicle. Police say that drug dealers from the area typically buy product in Baltimore and sell it in other areas. They say that this was a rare case where people came from Baltimore to conduct a deal, and authorities were not sure if this meant that there was a change in how heroin was being sold. All three who were taken into custody are scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12.
Those who are charged with drug offenses may face a variety of penalties. It may be possible to spend time in jail and/or prison, spend time on probation or be sentenced to both in some cases. Those who are facing drug charges may wish to hire a criminal defense attorney to help them dispute those chargers in court.
An attorney may be able to argue in a case such as this one that the substance being sold was not heroin or any other controlled substance. It may also be possible to win a plea agreement or an acquittal by casting doubt on the testimony of witnesses or the veracity of any physical evidence presented in the case. This may be enough to help a defendant avoid some or all of the penalties that may follow a conviction.
