Correctional officer charged with drug delivery attempt

On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Drug Charges on Friday, September 18, 2015.

As most residents of Maryland are aware, if you are suspected of involvement in a drug-related offense, you could face a lengthy criminal investigation with the potential for serious charges if officers determine that you may have violated the law. These charges can turn your life upside-down, potentially costing you your job and even resulting in hefty fines or a prison sentence if you are found guilty.

In Hagerstown, a correctional officer may be about to learn this the hard way after being charged with the attempted delivery of controlled substances to one of Maryland Correctional Training Center’s inmates. The 52-year-old faces 11 charges and is believed to have been getting the drugs from Smithsburg, working in connection with a relative of the inmate.

Reports state that the plan was to bring OxyContin and heroin into the correctional facility, along with Spice, a form of synthetic marijuana. The charges came shortly before the officer would have completed his 25th year since being hired. If convicted, the consequences could be severe. There is also the possibility that his position could be jeopardized by the charges against him.

Accusations like this can throw your life into disarray, and it can be hard to know where to turn. Fortunately, an attorney may be able to provide you with the assistance you need. He or she can examine the details of your case and may be able to advise you about the defense options available to you. With this guidance, there is a chance that you may be able to challenge the evidence against you and have the charges dropped. Equally, by ensuring the court hears your side of the story, you can increase your chances of securing a verdict of not guilty.
