Baltimore man wanted for murder and weapons charge is captured

On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Weapons Crimes on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

A Baltimore man who has been dubbed the city’s “Public Enemy No 1” has been taken into custody in another state. Investigators and U.S. Marshals surrounded an apartment in that state after receiving a tip that the man had been staying there. After initial conversations with the other people living in the apartment, the man surrendered to police. He is wanted on charges of murder, attempted murder, and a weapons charge for assault with a deadly weapon — plus additional accusations.

This man is accused of a long string of crimes and has a history that is just as filled with violent crime as is his present situation. Many people may believe that this man should be sent to prison for the rest of his life. It is often difficult for people to understand or agree with the principal that every person accused of a crime is entitled to face their accusers, to review the evidence against them, and to have a legal advocate who will guide them through court and trial processes.

Police officials who are continuing to gather evidence in this matter believe that there is a “network” of individuals who may have helped the man escape. These individuals may face charges also. Those people who may have knowingly or unknowingly helped the man escape or provided him shelter would benefit from knowing the laws regarding obstruction of justice and helping a fugitive avoid capture.

Many people in Baltimore are resting easier because this man is in custody. However, until a trial is held in which evidence shows that this man committed the crimes the police have charged him with, the weapons charge and other violent crimes he stands accused of will continue to be just that: accusations. Considering the severity and number of crimes he is charged with, it would be very important for him to have the guidance of someone who is experienced in handling cases involving allegations of violent crimes.
