26 Aug Man charged for DWI and drug possession

A 27-year-old man in Maryland received several charges on Aug. 16 after police allegedly found him asleep behind the wheel of his car. The man’s vehicle was apparently still running when police approached it in the Frederick parking around 7:30 a.m.

Frederick police officers said that the man was showing signs of intoxication at the scene. When he was asked to perform field sobriety tests, the man apparently failed to prove the officer’s assertions wrong, and he was taken into police custody. The man was later handed drug charges when he was allegedly found to be in possession of prescription pills that he did not have a valid prescription for and marijuana resin.

As a result of the drugs that were seized, the man received charges for possession of marijuana, possession of oxymorphone and possession of oxymorphone with intent to distribute. He was also charged for driving while impaired. It is unclear what quantities of the drugs the man was accused of possessing, though the word “resin” sometimes refers to residue left behind in a pipe after marijuana has been smoked in it. Because it is such an insignificant quantity, a person accused of possessing marijuana resin may be able to have the charge dropped as part of a plea deal.

An individual who is charged for possession with intent to distribute prescription medication might be able to have the charge reduced to simple possession. Even without a valid prescription, a record of a past prescription for the drug may be enough to establish that the defendant intended to keep the pills for personal use.
