06 Aug 2 men arrested and charged in Maryland for heroin possession

Heroin is an illegal controlled substance in every state, including here in Maryland. Heroin charges can carry very stiff penalties should one be convicted of possession or distribution of the drug. After an investigation that authorities say has been going on for several weeks, two men have been arrested and are now facing heroin charges.

The authorities say they pulled over a vehicle in mid-July because they believed the car was being utilized for some sort of drug activity. It was believed that the driver was on his way to another state, where authorities suspected that he would pick up heroin. A search warrant was reportedly obtained so that authorities could search the vehicle.

When the police searched the 28-year-old’s vehicle, they supposedly found over 50 individual packets of what appeared to be heroin. The 44-year-old passenger in the vehicle allegedly had crack cocaine on his person. Reportedly, unspecified drug paraphernalia was also found.

They were both immediately arrested and taken to jail. They were charged with heroin possession with distribution intent, drug paraphernalia possession and controlled substance possession. Both were subsequently released from jail.

As these men move forward in defending their heroin cases in Maryland, they will want to make certain that their legal rights are not violated in any way. It will also be important to review all possible defenses that may help to challenge the specific allegations. At the same time, efforts may be made to explore the possibility of a plea agreement with prosecutors, which could lead to less severe penalties.
