25 Feb 2 face drug trafficking charges in Maryland

On Feb. 6, police took two Maryland residents into custody for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking. According to reports, two law enforcement officials, who were both working undercover in the area, claimed that two people, a Linkwood man and a Delaware woman, were involved in illegal drug activity.

Following the alleged drug trafficking incident, which took place on Springdale Road, police confiscated $1,451 cash and 31 30-milligram oxycodone pills. The two individuals were then detained in the Dorchester County Detention Center.

The 34-year-old man, who faces charges of possession of illegal drug paraphernalia and SCS possession, was released the same day on a $7,500 bond and is scheduled for trial at the Dorchester County District Court on June 8. The 23-year-old woman was not released until Feb. 9 on $50,000 bond. She faces numerous charges including possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute, possession of illegal drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a prescription with intent to distribute, CDS possession with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Her arraignment before a Dorchester County District Judge has been scheduled for March 4.

Individuals who have been accused of drug charges can face serious consequences if they are convicted. Penalties can include a lengthy jail sentence, stiff fines and a criminal record that could seriously damage one’s future. An experienced defense attorney may be able to help mitigate a person’s penalties by thoroughly analyzing the series of events that led to the incident. For example, if the defendant’s rights were violated at any time during the officer’s response to the incident or if the evidence gathered was not within the search warrant’s scope, the judge may rule out the use of the evidence. Without sufficient evidence to prove the prosecutor’s case, the judge may reduce the charges or dismiss the case altogether.
