31 Jan Maryland man accused of solicitation of a minor for child porn

Being accused of anything having to do with child pornography or solicitation of a minor can have serious repercussions for any individual in the state of Maryland. For those who work in the school system, it can be even more damaging to both a person’s career and reputation. A man who worked as a teacher’s aide for the Maryland School for the Deaf in Columbia is now facing allegations that he sexually abused multiple victims and that he also engaged in the solicitation of a minor for the purposes of producing child pornography.
One report indicated that the number of alleged victims had risen to seven. The accused teacher’s aide was reportedly indicted recently in a Howard County courtroom. The 37-year-old man has been accused of three counts of solicitation for child pornography along with seven counts of sexual abuse of a minor.
The man was originally charged back in Dec. 2012. In the original allegations, the man was accused of abusing three girls who attended the School for the Deaf between the years 2008 to 2010. In the more recent charges, it is alleged that the man engaged in the purported acts as recently as July 2011.
While it can be tempting for community members to rush to judgment in any child pornography or solicitation of a minor criminal case, both the American and Maryland justice systems guarantee defendants the right to be presumed innocent during the trial process. Only in the event that prosecutors can prove a person’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt by presenting sufficient evidence at trial can a person be deemed guilty in the eyes of the law. This high burden of proof is not met in every case, which makes the presumption of innocence especially important.
