Drug offenses can often lead to serious consequences for Maryland residents who are caught up in a drug-related police investigation. One such Maryland man is now facing two counts of a drug trafficking charge. Police officials claim that the man engaged in a face-to-face sale of narcotics to undercover detectives on a Tuesday afternoon March.
The undercover sting operation took place in Brooklyn Park and was carried out by officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Reports indicate that citizens had been calling with claims that drug activity was occurring in the area around Victory and 11th Avenues. This prompted authorities to initiate an undercover sweep of the area, ultimately resulting in the drug charges being filed against the defendant.
Police report that detectives were offered crack cocaine by the accused man, who allegedly came up to them to instigate the sale. Officers wasted no time in arresting the man for drug trafficking. Further investigation uncovered the fact that police in Baltimore County had issued arrest warrants for the defendant.
The 48-year-old man was taken to a Maryland jail and booked on two counts of a drug trafficking charge. The accused individual will now face the difficult decision of trying to negotiate some sort of plea agreement with officials, or fighting the charges made against him. Defendants in these situations are typically best-served by fully researching their rights under the law and ensuring they have a clear understanding of the possible punishments they could receive. A conviction on drug trafficking can lead to serious repercussions, which can make it important to have a full picture of the legal landscape before proceeding with a defense.
